Directions to Blueberry Pond Observatory:

The observatory is located in Pownal, Maine about 10 minutes inland from Freeport.  Very near Mt Bradbury State Park on Route 9.

Less than 30 minutes driving time is needed to get here from Portland, Brunswick, Lewiston, Gray and other surrounding areas.

Located in the quiet countryside surrounded by woods, the observatory is three stories tall and has a good view of the sky in every direction.

From Portland:

Total travel time to observatory: 25-30 minutes...

Take highway 295 North to Freeport, Exit 22.  Then follow the directions below for Freeport.

From Brunswick/Bath:

Total travel time to observatory: 25-30 minutes...

Take highway 295 South to Freeport, Exit 22.  Then follow the directions below for Freeport.

From Augusta:

Total travel time to observatory: 45 minutes...

Take highway 295 South to Freeport, Exit 22.  Then follow the directions below for Freeport.

From Freeport:

Just 10 minutes away...

From highway 295 Exit 22 area, turn away from Freeport towards the Pownal/Durham direction.  I.E. turn right at the end of the North bound off ramp, or left from the end of the South bound off ramp.  When the road splits, turn left (as if you were following the signs to Mount Bradbury State Park).  Stay on this road for four miles, till you are approaching Pownal center.  Libby road will be on the right (There will be a big hill straight ahead and Libby Road goes up another hill on the right).  Turn right onto Libby Road and drive 1.5 miles to the observatory on the right at Mailbox 355.

From Lewiston/Auburn:

Total travel time to observatory: 30 minutes...

Take 136 South along the river to Route 9 South.  Take Route 9 south for 7.1 miles to the intersection with Poland Range Road.  (If you go past the intersection, you will eventually pass Mt. Bradbury State Park on the right.)   Turn left onto Poland Range Road.  Take your first right onto Libby Road (about .6 miles in).  The Observatory will be on the left at Mailbox 355 about another .6 miles in.

From Gray/Windham:

Total travel time to observatory: 25-30 minutes...

Take 115 South to Route 9 North. Then follow the directions below for Cumberland.

From Cumberland:

Total travel time to observatory: 20 minutes...

Take Route 9 North to Pownal Center.  Turn right onto Elmwood road.  Go up, over, and down the large hill.  At the bottom of the hill, turn left onto Libby Road.  Drive 1.5 miles in to the observatory on the right at Mailbox 355.
